About

I am a self-proclaimed foodie.  I love food and everything food-related. In my free time, I wander the aisles at grocery stores and peruse recipes, both in print and online.  It has always been my dream to write a cookbook, open a specialty food shop and have my own spice emporium. However, I am a busy working mom (of twins!), wife, daughter and sister, so this dream will take awhile to materialize. So, in the meantime, enjoy my cooking adventures, as I travel through my spice cabinet!

As an Egyptian-American born and raised in Michigan, I have developed a unique taste for food.  Growing up in such a diverse community, I was exposed to the flavors of not only Egypt, but Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and India.  You will see that I use many flavors of the Middle East and Far East, and combine them with Western flavors.  Now, I live in Northern Virginia, and I have access to all of these great flavors.

I would love and welcome any and all feedback on my recipes.  I try to provide a hyperlink to spices that are hard to find, although your local ethnic grocery store should carry them.  Also, please note, I am not a photographer, as much as I would love to be one.  Thus, these are all my novice photos, and where I used a stock photo I note that in the blog.

I LOVE your blog. I’m going to try your recipe for Bamya next week. I’m rudy’s cousin, BTW!

Great web site. The content is comprehensive, the recipe’s are creative and easy to follow. One area for improvement is the recent post section format. You might want to consider havig a bullet before each item as now it reads like one long paragraph. Keep up the good work!

Thanks, Basel. I am not good with HTML, so I changed the theme a bit to one that had the bullet points.

    Hi there!

I came across your blog when I googled “shakshouky”. I thought I was the only other Egyptian-American food blogger out there! :-) I was just looking through your posts, and your recipes are amazing! I just added you to my blogroll!

Another crazy coincidence: I lived in Northern Virginia for the past several years and just moved to Chicago after getting married last year. I know a ton of Egyptians living in No VA, but none that are bloggers, haha.

I just started blogging in March, and I *love* it. I often dream about writing a cookbook too… one day. I blog mostly about food (recipes), but my focus is more about “healthy living” in general, so I include fitness routines and issues that relate to environmentalism. Here’s the link to my blog; check it out: http://mylifeinapyramid.com/

I’m glad I stumbled upon your blog and I will be sure to stop by often.. akeed. :-)
